Formula

sale price=price×(1−d100)\text{sale price} = \text{price} \times \left(1 - \frac{d}{100}\right)

Take the discount off the original price.

final=sale price×(1+t100)\text{final} = \text{sale price} \times \left(1 + \frac{t}{100}\right)

Tax is added to the price after the discount.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the original price, the discount in % and the sales tax in %.
  2. Press Calculate to see what you save, the tax and the final price.

Worked example

An 80 jacket with 25% off and 8% tax

You save 25% of 80 = 20.00, so the sale price is 60.00.

Tax is 8% of 60 = 4.80.

The final price is 60.00 + 4.80 = 64.80.

Frequently asked questions

Is 25% off and then 8% tax the same as 17% off?

No. The tax is worked out on the lower sale price, so the final price is 80 × 0.75 × 1.08 = 64.80, not 80 × 0.83 = 66.40.

Does the order of discount and tax matter?

For the final price, no — multiplying by 0.75 and 1.08 gives the same result either way. Only the tax amount shown differs.
